Writing with Skill: Level 3 is the third book in the Writing with Skill series and the seventh within the full The Complete Writer series by Susan Wise Bauer.

Designed for middle school students continuing to work independently, this text is written directly to the student and organized by weeks, days, and steps that progressively guide students through the workbook. Students read through their lessons, integrating instruction and exercises, and follow the daily instructions.

Level 3 builds upon the skills introduced in Level 2, focusing on outlining, rewriting, research, and documentation while introducing new skills such as narrative by significance, explanation by cause and effect, instructional sequence, and experimental sequence. It includes topics in history, science, literature, and poetry, with all necessary source material in the text. Students will also spend more time researching and writing their original compositions. Additionally, students will study:

• Topic sentences.
• Documentation, plagiarism, introductions, and conclusions.
• Writing about fiction and poetry.
• Place description and chronological narrative.

Using literary models from great literature and step-by-step instructions on the lesson concepts, students will gain the tools needed to write with clarity and confidence. Assignments are to be written in a separate book.
