Something strange was happening in the small town of Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. It all began when two girls named Betty Parris and Abigail Williams started having uncontrollable fits. Soon after, other girls in the area said they were being poked with pins. Since there was no scientific explanation for these events, the people of Salem came to one conclusion: it must be witchcraft!

For the next year and a half, nineteen people were found guilty of practicing witchcraft and were hanged. Many others were imprisoned as the hysteria spread throughout the colony. In her book, author Joan Holub provides readers with an in-depth look at this dark and unsettling period in history.
