The Tale of Peter Rabbit is a classic children’s book written by Beatrix Potter. It was first published in 1902 by Frederick Warne, and remains one of Potter’s most popular and beloved stories. The book follows the adventures of a mischievous rabbit named Peter as he gets into trouble in Mr McGregor’s vegetable garden!

In 2002, the book was re-originated to celebrate its centenary. The new edition brought it closer to the original version, restoring six illustrations that were removed in 1903 to make room for endpapers. Additionally, two illustrations that had never been used before were included. Beatrix Potter, the author, is widely regarded as one of the best-loved children’s authors of all time.

After the success of The Tale of Peter Rabbit, Potter went on to create a series of stories featuring animal characters such as Mrs. Tiggy-winkle, Benjamin Bunny, Jemima Puddle-duck, Mr. Jeremy Fisher, and Tom Kitten. Her humorous and lively tales, accompanied by beautiful illustrations, have become a cherished part of childhood.

Using the revenue from her book sales, Beatrix Potter purchased Hill Top, a farm in the English Lake District. She eventually became a farmer and a prize-winning sheep breeder. In 1903, she patented the first Peter Rabbit doll, launching a merchandise program that continues to expand today. The range of products includes baby clothing, bedding, nursery decor, and collectibles, with licenses sold worldwide.

Upon her death, Beatrix Potter bequeathed 14 farms and over 4000 acres of Lake District farmland to the National Trust. Her intention was to preserve the place she loved, ensuring that it would remain undeveloped and protected for future generations to enjoy.

Today, Frederick Warne continues to publish Beatrix Potter’s original 23 tales, along with various other formats such as baby books, activity books, and gift and sound books.
