Saxon Math Homeschool 8/7 employs a spiral teaching method that steadily introduces new mathematical concepts while ensuring the ongoing reinforcement of skills already taught.

Advancing from the concepts learned in Saxon Math 7/6, the Saxon 8/7 textbook revisits arithmetic operations, measurements, and geometric skills while paving the way to pre-algebra, ratios, probability, and statistics. Students will engage with a range of mathematical operations, including fraction arithmetic, understanding the metric system, working with repeating decimals, applying scientific notation, exploring the value of Pi, graphing inequalities, multiplying algebraic expressions, using the Pythagorean Theorem, and solving linear equations in slope-intercept form.

The structured lessons start with a warm-up section that includes fact practice, mental math, and problem-solving exercises, followed by a new concept introduction. Students then get to practice the new skill, progressing to mixed practice exercises consisting of 25-30 questions, reviewing and applying newly introduced content. In-depth Investigations occur every ten lessons, offering a focused exploration of specific topics.

Accompanying resources include a Tests and Worksheets book that provides additional fact practice tests for each lesson and 23 cumulative assessments spanning every 5-10 lessons. Activity sheets intended to be paired with student text activities and optional reproducible recording forms offer further learning opportunities.

The Solutions Manual provides comprehensive answers for all lesson problems, including warm-up exercises, practice, mixed practice problems, and the supplemental practice found at the end of the student text.
